Know Your Team Part 7

in the history of NYP, our jumpers had never failed to contribute to the team, no matter in terms of medal or points.. From IVP record holder, Ronnie to 3 years of bronze medalist, Ben.. In this final part of "Know Your Team" we introduce you our jumpers..

Pole Vaulters and Jumpers

Do You Know?

Jimmy is the only Pole Vaulter in all POLYs and ITEs to win a medal in recent year.. He is not only a Pole Vaulter, he is also a part-time Hurdler.. He once represented NYP in the 110m hurdles event where he collected valuable points..

Jimmy is now coached by Mr Ng Kean Mun, a former national pole vaulter and the 2nd best pole vaulter in Singapore history.. Jimmy spent the first 10 over years in South Africa until he returned to serve the National Service..

Do You Know?

Pei Gin is a former AJC Wushu team member and is now a second year NYP Health Sciences student.. She is now training under Mr Ng Kean Mun who claimed that she has the potential to do well in Pole Vault..

She will be part of the jumps/hurdles team in the upcoming IVP..

Do You Know?

Jia Wei is a workaholic and is willing to sacrifice his free time for work.. He is formerly from the Jurong Sec Factory which produced top class athletes like National Cross Country champion, Chua Ee Ghim..

Jia Wei has a jinx and it is to get 4th in all competitions from ISG meet to Adventure Races.. But now he is back in training intending to end the jinx (or pass it to someone else =X).. Jia Wei is a long jumper..

Do You Know?

Cheng Huan is also better known as Crouch due to his height.. He is a high jumper currently training under national athlete and IVP record holder, Ronnie Cai.. Cheng Huan is a year 2 student at the School of Chemical and Life Sciences.. And he still owe Sam twisties.. -.-

Its the end of the "Know Your Team" series already.. hope all juniors now at least know how ur seniors look like and wads their name.. haa.. sooo no more "OI" or "HEY" from next training onwards..

Know Your Team Part 6

ever since V Mathimaran left NYP, the long distance guys hasnt been winning medals until the recent IVP, where our sch records tumbled like nobody's business.. Here's our endurance kings..

The NYP Kenyan and his distance runners

Do You Know?

Philip is a self proclaimed "Kenyan" and he is currently good enough to be "outsourced" to Mr Ghana (National Long and Middle D coach).. Philip has a dream and his dream is to hold all long distance records of NYP before he graduate..

Philip was part of the "records tumbling group" where he broke the school's 10km record.. but since he finished the race half a stride behind his senior, Kevin, the school record is now under the name of Kevin..

Do You Know?

Marcus is currently the best 800/1500m runner in NYP history having break the school's 800m record at IVP and the 1500m at the 3rd All Comers FY'07.. He is a double bronze medalist at the recent IVP as well..

Adding to his medal collection, Marcus did the school proud in the POL-ITE road race by finishing second, winning a silver medal for NYP..

Do You Know?

Jerome is the only person in the team so far to qualify for both the 800m and 1500m National Junior events.. Though no as good as Marcus, he had been training hard as the team look set to challenge for Top POL-ITE honours in this year's IVP..

Jerome had also represent NYP in the recent POL-ITE road race championship..

Do You Know?

Nazri is prone to injury but that does not frustrate him from returning to training.. In the recent IVP, he shocked everyone in the 800m field when he and Marcus did a 1-2 finish in the first of the two rounds.. He eventually fade off to finish in a respectable position..

Naz won a medal of each colour in the previous ISG meet and he is part of the 4x400m school record breaking team..

Know Your Team Part 5

in the history of NYP, the gals sprinters are always strong.. from Rupa to Merlene to Pei'En they'd set terrific standards for our gals to meet.. Here's our sprints gals..

Women with speed II

Do You Know?

Lynn previously represent NYP in the womens 100m IVP.. When she was on verge of converting into a high jumper, she injured her knee that put her out for months.. Now Lynn is back doing light trainings and physiotherapy..

Lynn is also well known for being able to sleep anywhere, anytime..

Do You Know?

Jasmine is one of the many Jasmines in the track team.. She is also one of the few final year students left.. Jasmine had done well in the recent ISG, winning 3 golds and 2 silver..

She was once out of training for months but her return now is a boost for the team as NYP is once again in search for the Top POL-ITE honour..

Do You Know?

Wan Yin only joined the team months ago after the leadership camp, "Camp Focus".. Though not as fast as the other sprint gals, her position as Logistics helped the team settle administrative matters..

Performance plateaus in running (from Redsports.com.sg)

Many of us have at one time or another said to ourselves, “Despite all this training, why am I not getting any faster or better?” Frustration then sets in because no matter what you do, you don’t seem to be seeing the results you want. And what more, the harder you try and the more you train, the worse your performance becomes. (more)
